Product Tip: Litter Genie

Tip disclaimer: the goal of this product tip is to share my own experience with the product. Purrmore and myself are not affiliated with any manufacturer or retailer, and we are not paid for any content.

The first time I met the Litter Genie was when caring for a cat that lived in a big apartment building. The trash chute was not easy to get to regularly, but the owner also did not want to accumulate smelly spent litter in her small apartment. The Litter Genie was a perfect solution!

Since then, I encountered the Litter Genie in multiple homes, in different varieties and sizes. The Litter Genie is a pail with a double lid, which locks in fragrances. This enables scooping the litter box regularly while only having to take the spent litter to the trash every few days (depending on the model and the number of cats using the litter boxes).

In addition, the Litter Genie has a continuous bag design that enables the usage of just the amount of plastic needed and not much more, reducing the amount of plastic waste. Since I only used the Litter Genie in client homes, I haven’t had much experience with changing the bag cartridge. The only time I did it, I found it difficult to find the starting point of the bag and dispensing the right amount. However, I am sure that this can be a matter of practice.

Like many other products that rely on refills, the cost of the pail is not too bad, but the continuous need for bag refill cartridges can impact the cost of the product significantly. I did see some creative ways of using regular trash bags that may solve that issue.

Overall, I consider the Litter Genie to be a wonderful tool that makes my life easier as a cat sitter. Most importantly, it makes life better for cat owners and makes the daily scoop quicker and easier.
